Rubric Templates

Build and manage custom rubrics for grading student activities.
Instructors use rubric templates to create rubrics for grading students. When creating a rubric, you can customize your criteria and performance levels. Once saved, these rubrics can be applied to any activity set up with the Rubric grading type.
 

Section 1: Accessing & Navigating the Rubric Dashboard

To manage your rubrics, click the Templates dropdown in the left sidebar and select Rubric Templates. This will open your main dashboard.

Filtering Your View

Use the tabs on the top right of the dashboard to organize rubrics by ownership:

  • 🌐 All: Every rubric available for you to use.
  • 💻 System: Pre-made templates from ChartFlow for common clinical scenarios.
  • 🏫 Organization: Rubrics shared by other instructors in your school.
  • 👤 My Rubrics: Templates you have created or edited.

Rubric Actions

Depending on the rubric's source, you will see the following buttons:

Preview Rubric Quickly preview all the rubric details without making any changes (This button is only available for System or Organization templates).
Edit Rubric Modify templates that you personally created (This will only appear on your own rubrics or ones you have already copied).
Copy & Edit Duplicate any rubric to your personal library so you can customize it for your specific needs.
To create your own custom rubric, click the + New Rubric Template button at the top of the dashboard. (For more details on how to customize your own rubric see section 2 of this help page)

Steps to create a new rubric template

1. Open the Rubric Builder

Navigate to the Rubric Templates menu via the sidebar and click + New Rubric Template.

2. Adjust Rubric Settings

  • Rubric Name: Give your template a clear title.
  • Visibility: Set to Private (just you) or Public (Organization-wide).
  • Description: Add optional instructions for this rubric.

3. Build the Rubric Grid

Performance Levels (Columns)

These are your score tiers:

  • Click + Add Column to create a new tier.
  • Labels are fully customizable (e.g., Excellent, Good, Satisfactory).
  • Assign a point value to each column.
  • Use the text box to describe each performance level (e.g., All required fields and sections are fully completed with no omissions. or Multiple required fields are missing or left blank).
  • Click the Red X at the top of a column to delete it.
Criteria (Rows)

These are the specific skills being graded:

  • Click + Add Row or + Add Criterion to add a task.
  • Type the skill name in the Criterion Name box.
  • Use the optional Description text box under each criterion to descripe the criteria.
  • Click the Red X on the far left to delete a full row.

📊 How Scoring Works: The total score is the sum of the points earned in each row. The builder calculates the Total Points (maximum grade) automatically as you add criteria. When finished, click the blue Save button to finalize your template.
